What are technical cookies?
Technical Cookies are those used for the sole purpose of “carrying out the transmission of communication over an electronic communications network, or as strictly necessary for the service provider of the IT company specifically requested by the subscriber or user to provide this service (see Art. 122, paragraph 1 of the Code)”.
Such cookies are not used for other purposes and are normally installed directly by the website owner or administrator. They can be divided into browser or session cookies, which ensure normal browsing and use of the website (e.g., allowing purchases to be made or obtaining authentication to access restricted areas), analytics cookies, assimilated to technical cookies when used directly by the site operator to collect aggregate information on the number of users and how they visit the site, and functional cookies, which allow users to browse based on a set of selected criteria (e.g. language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service provided.
What are profiling cookies?
Profiling cookies are cookies used to track a user’s online navigation and create profiles regarding their tastes, habits, choices, etc. These cookies allow advertising messages to be sent to the user’s device in line with preferences shown during their online navigation. This site does not use such cookies.
Is it necessary to obtain the user’s consent for the installation of cookies on their device?
It depends on the purposes for which the cookies are used and, therefore, whether they are technical or profiling cookies.
User consent is not required for the installation of technical cookies, although it is necessary to disclose their usage (art. 13 of the Privacy Code). Profiling cookies, on the other hand, can only be installed on the user’s device if the user has given consent after being informed in a simplified manner.
