Reading, printed books, and stories are all forms and tools for making and becoming a culture. Based on this idea, the ASAI community of via Genè 12 opened a community library with book lending services, a connection with schools, a literary café with male and female writers, and many activities to promote reading for different age groups.
Tra le Righe (Between the Lines) Community Library
Books of all kinds, including fiction and nonfiction, children’s books, and even language and bilingual books, were donated by friends through word of mouth. For months, a group of male and female volunteers met via Genè to join forces and ideas, paint the walls, assemble the shelves, and catalog the books.
In addition to book lending, Tra le Righe hosts creative writing workshops for middle schoolers, children’s storytelling groups, Book of the Week, activities for middle and elementary schools, literary cafes, book clubs, and much more.
The library was inaugurated in 2022 as part of the project La cultura che cura (Culture Cures) in collaboration with the Libraries without Borders Association. Our cultural initiatives are actually woven together with the Cassiopeia project – A village that educates, with support from the Con i Bambini Foundation, and with the Tra le Righe project, with support from the Piedmont Region and in collaboration with Scritturapura publishing house.
